Learn About The Soy / Botanical Wax Advantage

Testimonials

At AromaSoy by Grazia we want you to enjoy your soy candles as much as we enjoyed making them. The following tips will help to use our soy candles as safely as possible, and to maximize scent throw, burn time, and wax usage.

Safety Tips | Discoloration or Fading | Mushrooming Wicks | Burning Tips | Multiple Wicks

Safety Tips:

  • Never burn candles unattended, or move when hot, to prevent fire or burns.
  • Keep away from children, pets, and drafts.
  • Only place your candles on heat resitant surfaces to prevent damage or melting.

Discoloration or Fading:

Since I choose to keep my candles as natural as possible by not coloring them, from time to time, certain fragrance oils will turn the wax a variety of colors, from a light beige to a canary yellow. Certain scents will also turn yellow from daylight and especially when in direct contact with sunlight. As with any candle, whether paraffin or soy, it is best to keep your candles out of direct sunlight. You may also notice after burning your soy candles that the melted wax may harden to a different color. This generally occurs if the candle is burned longer than the recommended 4-hour duration or with multiple wicking.

Mushrooming Wicks:

Due to the fact that the wicks used in my soybean wax candles are either 100% cotton or paper cored wicks, you will notice a "mushrooming" of the wick. Soybean wax is a denser, harder burning wax and requires larger wicks than would be used in the same size paraffin candle, in order to create a complete melt pool and offer maximum scent distribution, the whole purpose to a scented candle. Be sure to remove the black "mushroom" before burning and periodically during burning, to provide the strongest burn possible. Also, be sure to prevent pieces of the "mushroom" from falling into your liquefied wax. Allow candle to cool before relighting.

Burning Tips:

Be sure to keep wicks trimmed, to prevent over-heating of the container and wax, and excess sooting, however, you need a good length to achieve proper wax temperature for maximum scent distribution. If you note a lot of smoking, be sure to trim the wick, particularly with larger containers having one wick, or larger wicks in general, to 1/8”, when necessary. We recommend using one a wick dipper to extinguish your candles.

Multiple Wicks:

You will also note that there may be multiple wicks in containers that are 3" or less. This is to ensure the best possible burn and scent distribution for that particular fragrance. From time to time, multiple wicking may not be practical, therefore, some of the wax may remain unmelted along the outer edges of the container. Should this occur, since the wax becomes quite soft, just take a knife or similar object, and scrape the unmelted wax into the melted wax. All burn times are approximate for the size of the candle and will vary, depending on how you burn the candle, and whether it is multiple wicked or not.

Multiple wicking produces a stronger scent, however, it tends to heat the wax hotter, and will consume the candle quicker.. As with all candles, it is wise not to burn a candle longer than a 4 hour duration.. Nevertheless, it is imperative that you burn each candle long enough to create a liquid melt pool across the container to allow for even melting and maximum utilization of the wax. A general rule of thumb is 1 hour for each inch diameter, however, that will vary with each scent.
